Where next?

Well this is it, time to think forward to the planning of the next big one. The bags are unpacked, washing all done, and it is basically back to normal life. A rude shock heading our way tomorrow as we return to work. Wayne heads off to new premises and I head off to the final term mania, testing, reports and graduation. Can’t close off without thanking those who made it all possible. Thanks Pam and Poppa Ted, Tash and Ian and Mum/Nanna Phyl who “kept the home fires burning”. Izzy and Ozzy continued to give forth their daily eggs and Bundy and Chardy were well cared for. We missed all the Brisbane wet weather and are not sad about that. Thanks to those of you who followed the blog and to those of you who commented and kept us company along the way. The blog has given us a great travel diary and something we can go back to. Wayne has almost organised the photos, they are attached to our personal website http://www.murrumba.net/canada Enjoy, we did !!!

Are we there yet?

and the answer is NOOOOOO! We boarded the plane in LA to then sit on the tarmac for over an hour, they said some guff about loading freight….. anyhow just added more time to the cramped conditions…. and that meant we were not going to meet our connecting flight to Brisbane …so whilst we were in the air Qantas already moved us to the 12:05 flight (replacing the 10:05am) …so we get to Sydney, clear immigration and customs, transfer to domestic terminal and yep you guessed it …Qantas Club….and the first announcement we hear….our original flight to Brissy was delayed…we would have made it!!!!  Ah well …what can we do? Wayne is currently catching up on the Australian news. We should be home by 1:30pm Brisbane time ….here’s hoping.

LAX

Hear the song, “LA International airport, where the big jet engines roar…..” well that is where we are now, in Qantas Club….blogging…cause we can! Flight an hour late leaving JFK but landed on time. Bit bumpy along the way, They need to fix their pot holes, must be the same maintenance crews as the Sydney road crews. BUT, glad to say, very smooth landing. Changing to a bigger plane, leaving here 10 before 12 (American way of saying the time) for us Aussies….10 to 12 (midnight)….hopefully the pothole crew have fixed them over the big blue Pacific. Himself slept most of the way so maybe it will be movie time this leg…. see ya …here’s the boss man.

Back in the Qantas Club in LAX, been here a few times before (can’t match the Kyle man though!!) We’ve had more nibblies and more wine, ready for the 14 1/2 hour trip back, then the transfer to a domestic hop up to Brisbane (I upgraded us to Business for that, a little luxury for the last last part). Time for one last loo visit then we’ll make our way to the gate and try to get comfortable.  Ooroo!

Tomorrow

will be lost to us, forever. We leave today, Wednesday, and arrive in Sydney on Friday morning. Where did Thursday go? It disappears as we cross that imaginary line, the International Date Line. “Tomorrow” was also the title of the last episode of the West Wing, one of our favourite American shows. So this is our last episode, leaving the USA and returning to Australia. This morning we went to Grand Central Terminal, here’s the last photos of our holiday.

PS. He must be getting tired! This morning we also went to see the Rockefellar Centre, that is where the ice rink is, and we also were part of the street crowd for the NBC Today Show, mmmmmm, the topic of the moment was “overeating”, was that coincidental or was it a message for us. Himself did “G’Day Mate” the hosts, particularly the weather guy “Big AL”. As we shut down the pink computer (our constant travel companion) the sky above New York City is crystle clear….a great day for flying….see ya guys and thanks for staying connected to us while we toured. Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Yep, it is our last /travel day, although we don’t start flapping our wings till 7pm tonight. So a couple of hours this morning, thought we would go to Grand Central Railway Station, for the “train” part of the title, before a freshen up, check-out, and “automobile” journey to JFK Airport, then a “plane” to LA (6 hours), transit, touchdown in Sydney 8am, transit, then Brisbane at 10:35am (hopefully on time) …that is 11:35am Sydney time. So it will be a big day, no doubt, queues, queues and yet more queues. Should have Bundy and Chardy kisses by midday Friday. Expect another post though, as himself will, no doubt, need to geek at the airports.

Oh What a Night!

What must one do whilst in New York? One must attend a show on Broadway. We did. Jersey Boys. Row E, 109 and 110. Five rows from the stage, right in the middle! So it cost a little, big deal eh. This show is …. FAN-bloody-TASTIC!!! 2 and 1/2 hours that held us spellbound with the story and toe tapping, singing under our breath with all the songs. Go, if you can. go even if you can’t, it’s great :) We’re all pysched up and think we might go back out and wander down to Times Square one last time, or go up and see the Dave Letterman show. I’m changing into my Wallabies jersey (or is that joisey now?), the yellow really stands out on the big screen down at Times Square! Oooroo!!

Imagine That!

Well here we are relaxing a bit before “Jersey Boys” ….our last full day on vacation. We had a slightly later start this morning, emptied bags and “packed/repacked” in readiness for homeward journey. (we had to buy an extra bag…not for my purchases as good things come in small packages). Then went to a local deli for breakfast, visited M&M World (WOW) and then jumped on the open top bus for yet another tour (they are such good value) …this time “up town”. So, off to the Columbus Memorial, the Lincoln Centre, the architecture in this part of NY is amazing, lovely old buildings. Then, The Dakota Apartments, where John Lennon was shot. Wow, right there just to the left of us. No need to say anymore. We then proceeded past a few more interesting places like Lauren Bacall’s current residence and the like and got some info on the price of rent etc. Past  some university buidings, hospitals and into the Jewish area, then into Harlem, the Apollo Theatre, this is where Billy Holiday, Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Michael Jackson got their break. We drove down Martin Luther King Jnr Ave and Malcolm X Ave. The HUGE number of Baptist churches in one small area is amazing and apparently they are all full on Sundays with the congregations all dressed up (there are over 400). As we continued on the tour we decided to jump off and (Let’s talk like a tourist) do Central Park. We, wait for it, WALKED again all through Central Park taking snaps of the reservoir, the Great Lawn ( where the greats have performed, ie The Supremes, Carole King, Elton John, Garth Brooks, Diana Ross, Bon Jovi and of course the famous Simon and Garfunkel )..did you know that Bruce Springsteen was refused permission for a free concert because it was expected that 1.3 million would try to attend. We saw and strolled through the Shakespeare Garden, the Turtle pond, then …Strawberry Fields, a place set aside to remember John Lennon, there is a mosaic  of “imagine” and as his birthday was only last Saturday 9th Oct, there were many people still paying tribute to him.  From here we went to the Terrace and then walked down The Mall, tree lined with American Elm trees and just lovely …here we met “Sean Penn” …. a space cadet who  hates people with lenses, he wants to swap all lenses with guns and shoot the people, I chose not to photogrph him! Then we wandered further down the Mall (photo, photo, photo) and got the tour bus back to the hotel. While we were in Central Park we HAD to go to the gift shop, and I’m glad we did as Wayne found a lovely “Imagine “token for his bag and we found something very special for Vicki. On our way back to the hotel we also found a shoe shop, so I got a pair of “Fit Flops” so comfortable. So now we are getting ourselves in the mind for “Jersey Boys”.  Sherry (no Canadian Club, but close), then I’m sure I “Can’t take my eyes off you (the performers) , and of course tonight “Big girls WILL cry” ….but seriously, “Oh what a night” it will be , and not late December back in 63 but Mid October 2010…and to see it on Broadway, how cool is that?!!!! Now, I’m off to get more dry ginger ale , here’s Mr Right to do the photos.

Hic! Photos follow, then off to Joisey Boys!
